Elkader Register, Thur., 15 Nov. 1923. Strawberry Point column.
The death of John Hennessy, Sr., occurred at his home east of town Sunday morning. The deceased was a member of the Catholic church all his life and died in that faith loving the church and its teachings and being one of its most devout worshippers. Several times when Father Casey visited him, he said he was prepared to go. His work here on earth was done and he always had a kind word for everybody. His wife preceded him in death July 4, 1914, and also three children, two dying in childhood and Miss Anna who passed away Feb. 24, 1921. Four sons are left to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate father, J. J. Hennessy and M. J. Hennessy of this place, E. F. Hennessy of Denver, Colo., and Dr. F. A. Hennessy of Calmar, besides other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held in the Catholic church Tuesday evening conducted by his pastor, Father Casey, who spoke comforting words to those who remain. A good man has gone from our midst but his memory and many acts of kindness will never be forgotten by his host of friends.
