Drowned. - Mr. M. Thompson of Monona informs us that a man last week near Clydesdale deliberately sprang into a sink-hole, at the time filled with water, and before rescue could reach him he was dead. He was an Irishman without family and not of very sound mind. We forget his name.

Messrs. Editors - Dear Sirs: In the Times of the 7th, is an article entitled "Drowned" the reading of which, convoys the idea that the individual drowned, committed suicide. I beg leave to say most positively that such was not the case. Pat Coffes the name of the man drowned at Clydsdale, went to the water with a number of young men to bathe, and not being able to swim, sank in deep water, and unfortunately there was none there able to help him. Patrick was a kind, quiet and inoffensive man, and had just completed a five months engagement with me.
Yours, respectfully, M. Thompson, Monona~Weekly North Iowa Times, Wednesday, July 14, 1858
