Clayton Co. - the clothes of Mr. McMullen, one of the first settlers in Guttenberg, were found on the banks of the Mississippi on Wednesday, and it is supposed that he was drowned. The JOURNAL says that, "whether his death was the result of accident while bathing or suicide, is not known, but the general opinion inclines to the former supposition.
Last night about ten o'clock, he complained of feeling unwell, and requested Mr. Wm. Sullivan, a grocer, and one of his intimate friends, to go to the Union House and get his watch, which he had left lying under his pillow, and take care of it for him until he called for [it].

- He was one of the county commissioners (along with H.F. Lander & William W. Wayman) who approved, on December 4, 1839, the plot of Prairie La Porte surveyed by C.L. Edson, the county surveyor.
