Elkader Register, Thur., 04 Oct. 1923.
Christina, daughter of Christian Christofferson and Korn Rasmusson, was born at Ness, Hedemarken, Norway, August 28th, 1852, and departed this life Sept. 27th, at 10:30 a.m., at the age of 71 years, and 29 days.
Christina Christofferson spent her childhood, and grew to womanhood, was baptized and confirmed amid the scenes of her birth. At the age of 22 she came to America. In 1879 she was married to Knut Thompson at Norway church by Rev. O. Waldeland, the first permanent minister of Norway Congregation.
Mr. and Mrs. Thompson settled in Wagner township where they lived until eleven years ago when they moved to St. Olaf. The marriage was blessed by two sons, Thov of St. Olaf, and Carl of Ryder, North Dakota.
For several years she has been a constant sufferer and since last March has been unable to leave her bed. All that possibly could be done to relieve her suffering was done by her husband, her children and her many friends.
Mrs. Thompson was a pious Christian woman and a faithful church member. She loved and took great comfort in the word of God and the Sacraments. She was a member of the Ladies' Aid Society. She took great interest in both Home and Foreign Missions. She remembered them even at the last by leaving a gift of $500.00 to this worthy cause. This Christian deed should be an example to others.
She leaves to mourn her death, her husband and life partner for 44 years, two sons, a daughter-in-law and two grandchildren.
The funeral was held Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the house and 2:00 p.m. at Norway church, burial at Norway Cemetery. Rev. N. Arvesen officiated at the services rendering many beautiful tributes to the dear departed. The Norway Chior furnished two sacred anthems. The church was decorated in purple and white asters.
The pall bearers were G. Hanson, K. Stearns, A. Wold, K. Embretson, A. Gulsvig and H. Thoreson of Osage, Ia. The floral tributes were many and beautiful.
Mother rest thy work is o'er.
Sleep the sleep that knows no breaking.
On that fair celestial shore
Where no human hearts are aching
Lay down thy head upon thy Savior's breast,
We loved thee well but Jesus loved thee best.
