Elkader Register, Thur., 21 June 1923.
The death of Mrs. Wm. F. Kleinpell occurred Sunday June 17th at her home in this place. She suffered a partial stroke of paralysis several years ago, from which she never entirely recovered.
Sophie Wilhelmine Schmidt was the daughter of J. B. and Caroline Schmidt, and was born at Elkader May 20, 1866. She grew to womanhood here and on January 18th, 1888, was united in marriage to Wm. F. Kleinpell of this place.
Two daughters came to bless their home; Lulu, now Mrs. C. F. Murphy and Ella, who with her devoted husband made the years of infirmity as bright as possible with their love and tender care. Two grandchildren, Lorna and Kathleen Murphy were also rays of sunshine in the later years.
Mrs. Kleinpell is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Paulina Katschkowsky and Mrs. Lizzie Jeffers of Elkader, and two brothers, John and Henry of Seattle, Washington, and a large number of cousins and other relatives.
Mrs. Kleinpell was a quiet home woman, who gave her best to her family, her friends and neighbors. and her church. To all she was ready with a helping hand and kindly friendship. A woman of high character and worth in the community.
She was a faithful member of the Evangelical church and "Frauenverein" and only sickness would prevent her from attending services and meetings. The husband will miss a faithful wife, the children a loving mother, the church a tireless worker, the poor and needy a cheerful giver, the relatives and friends a true friend, the community one never to be forgotten. And I heard a voice from heaven, saying unto me "Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them."
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, 1:30 at the house and 2:00 o'clock at the Evangelical church, conducted by Rev. Franke and she was laid to rest in the East Side cemetery. Six of her nephews acted as pallbearers, George, William and Fred Katschkowsky, Karl and Arthur Kleinpell and Julien Schmidt.
