Elkader Register, Thur., 21 June 1923. Guttenberg column.

Pard Chase, an old resident of Millville and vicinity for the past sixty years, and who served as Justice of the Peace in that township for the past forty years, died very suddenly Monday. He was a single man and had no relatives as far as anyone knows. His age was about 68 years. He was laid to rest in the Millville cemetery on Wednesday.

Notes:
-In the Graham column of the previous weeks edition of the same newspaper it notes the death of Andrew Chase and that he had always been known as Pard, also that he had been born at Millvillle and had spent his life there.

Added by S. Ferrall:

As noted by Reid, the paper was in error naming 'Pard' as Edwin in the obit.

Edwin W. Chase was a photographer. He is buried in the Guttenberg cemetery and died in August 1923 as per his Death Certificate (familysearch.org)

Andrew Jackson Chase, a single man, died in Millville twp. on June 11, 1923. Death certificate (familysearch.org) gives burial in Freidlein cemetery.

Hopefully the paper made a correction in later issues but none has been found at this time.
