Elkader Register, Thur., 10 May 1923. Wagner column.

Many old friends and neighbors gathered at the church last Sunday to pay their last respects of Mr. John Larson of St. Olaf who died suddenly last week. His sons, Ollie of Brandt, N.D., and Perry of St. Paul, Minn., came down for the funeral. Our sympathies goes out to the bereaved ones.

Elkader Register, Thur., 10 May 1923. St. Olaf column.

John Larson passed away at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Larson, last Thursday, May 3rd, at the advanced age of 82 years.

He was born April 7, 1841, in Rendahl, Gulbrandalen Norway. At the age of 8 years, together with his parents and two sisters he came to America. The family lived a few months on Rock Prairie, Wisconsin, and then came to Farmersburg, Clayton county, and settled on a farm east of St. Olaf, called the Wilker place, this was in 1869.

On February 15th, 1867, he was united in marriage with Agenta Christenson, who died in 1897. The marriage was blessed with 11 children, of whom 5 have passed away and 6 survive. The names of the ones that passed away are: Herbert, Phillip, Edward, Mary, Willcom and Mrs. Hans Helgerson. Those living are: Bertha Embretson, St. Olaf; Oliver, Lily, S.D.; Louis, Watertown, S.D.; Joseph, Lily, S.D..; Lawrence, Lily, S.D.; and Perry of St. Paul Minnesota.

About 47 years ago he came to St. Olaf, and the farm that he lived on most of his life, he sold several years ago to his son, Willcom. Mr. Larson had been in ill health for some time. On May 3rd, he and his daughter, Bertha, went to his old place, to Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Larson, when entering the house he dropped dead. John Larson was no more.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Knudt Embertson. Rev. Arvesen, his pastor, officiated at the home in English and at the church in Norwegian, and also at the grave. Rev. Shurson, of Minneapolis, field secretary of the Norwegian Lutheran church of America, who spoke that day in Rev. Arvesen's church was also present and spoke in English. At the church the St. Olaf choir rendered several beautiful songs.

Carl Schultz, Knudt Stearns, Andrew Wold, Asbjourn Gulsvig, Fred Orvis and John Christenson acted as pallbearers.

The old people are leaving us. They will not come back to us, but we will go to them. May we all meet. We shall meet with joy and happiness.

(Note: Researchers will need to ascertain his children as it appears this article is in some error.)
