Elkader Register, Thur., 10 May 1923.
Edwin Warner White was born in South Hero, Vermont, Feb. 18, 1859, and died at his home in Volga May 8, 1923. His parents moved to this place when he was only four years of age, where they have resided ever since. May 28, 1888, he was united in marriage to Miss Clara Crain of Volga.
His father passed away May 23, 1888. His mother is still living and together with the almost heart-broken wife, five children, two grandchildren, one sister, and a large circle of cousins, nephews and nieces, mourn the loss of a loving son and husband, an indulgent father and kind uncle.
Mr. White's illness was of short duration, being confined to the house only two weeks. He was a great sufferer. Everything that loving hearts and willing hands could do was done to alleviate his suffering and to restore to health, but all efforts were unavailing, and he quietly slipped away into the great beyond, there to await the coming of his loved ones and to greet those who have passed on before. In his last conscious moments, he gave the assurance to his nurse that he accepted the "Great Shepherd" as his friend.
Ed. as he was familiarly called by all, received his education in the schools of Volga. He has been engaged in the mercantile business for nearly 40 years and had gained the reputation of dealing honestly and uprightly. Many who began trading with him at an early date were still his customers. The firm thereby acquired the name of "Old Reliable."
It is unnecessary to speak of the life and character of Edwin White. He has lived and grown up among us and is well known to all. He will be missed in Volga, not only by his own family and relatives but by the whole community as well.
Not dead but passed on before.
The funeral was held Saturday at the Methodist church, Rev. H. A. Crumb preaching the sermon. The floral offerings were many and were beautiful. Interment was made in Hill Crest cemetery.
