Elkader Register, Thur., 03 May 1923. Strawberry Point column.
The burns which Mrs. Mike Morris received from a bonfire Wednesday afternoon proved fatal and she passed away Friday morning after enduring much suffering. Besides her husband and three small children she leaves one sister and three brothers, Mrs. George Davis of this place, Frank Meyers of Minneapolis, Charles Meyers of Thorpe and Alex Meyers of this place besides other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Sunday morning at the Sacred Heart church conducted by Rev. Casey and a large number came to pay their last sad respects to the departed one and the remains laid to rest in the Cox Creek cemetery. A kind and loving wife, mother, sister and friend has gone, but may we live a life that some day we shall meet here and where there is no sorrow. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the heart broken husband and three motherless little children who will sadly miss the fond care that can only be given by a devoted mother. No more will their troubles and wants be calmed by the soothing hands of the best friend they will ever know in life.
(Note: WPA records indicate Cecilia/Cicelia Morris, 25 Oct. 1887 - 27 Apr. 1923, buried in Sacred Heart cemetery. The IGPP shows the gravestone photo of Cecelia Morris, with the same dates and in the same cemetery.)
