Elkader Register, Thur., 03 May 1923. Fairview column.

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Barnhart received the sad news on Thursday morning of the death of Mrs. Barnhart's little niece, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Groat living near Cedar Creek. The little one's clothing took fire from a bonfire on Wednesday evening. The flames were quickly extinguished but the child had inhaled so much of the fumes that she died that night. The funeral was held on Saturday with burial at Guttenberg. Among those in attendance from here were Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Barnhart and family and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Simons and two daughters.
