Elkader Register, Thur., 22 Feb. 1923.

Herman Peter Dittmer, a resident of Cox Creek township passed away at his home Tuesday morning, February 20, 1923, as a result of (Artercorosis) hardening of the arteries. His age was 58 years, 1 month and 16 days.

About four years ago Mr. Dittmer became ill, and in spite of medical skill and loving care he passed away to that harbor of rest.

Mr. Dittmer was born Jan. 4th, 1865, in Cox Creek township, the son of Peter and Magdalena Dittmer on the farm that has been his home up to the time of his death. He received his education in the rural school of his township and also at Elkader and was a leader in many of the township activities.

He was united in marriage with Clara Meder on November 21, 1894, at Dubuque, Iowa, and to this union three children were born: Arthur, Irene and Floyd, who together with their mother survive. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Adolph Elvers of Elkader. His aged mother, 1 brother and 2 sisters preceded him in death. His mother passed away June 4, 1919, at the age of over 95 years. Martin Dittmer, November 14, 1919, Mrs. J. C. Stemmer, October 08, 1909, and Mrs. Brinkhouse a number of years ago.

Mr. Dittmer was a member of the German church and the Modern Woodman of America. He was a public spirited man, a kind and obliging neighbor, an indulgent and loving husband and father and a sincere friend. He achieved a substantial measure of material success while keeping before him the image of high ideals and services to his fellowmen.

Funeral services were held (Thursday) this afternoon at the home at 1:00 o'clock and interment was made in the Mederville cemetery. Rev. C. H. Franke of the Evangelical church of Elkader officiating. His sorrowing family have the deep sympathy of all.
