John Garretson was born in Bedford County, Penn., April 2nd, 1849, and passed away February 9th, 1923, at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 7 days. He came to Iowa with his parents in 1856 locating near Colesburg. In 1882 he was united in marriage with Martha Bagsby. Several years ago he was united with the Methodist church, then later with the United Brethern of which he was a member until his death. Surviving him is his wife, one daughter and two sons, Fannie Hansel of Garber, Ia., Wm. Garretson of Manchester, Ia, Cleveland Garretson at home. One son Davis preceded him in death seven years ago. He will be greatly missed in the home circle as he was always a kind husband and father. He also leaves 3 grandchildren, Adeline and Harold Hansel of Garber, Ia., and Dale Garretson of Manchester. He has 3 sisters and 1 brother, Sarah Hubbard of Libertyville, Ill., Eliza Stewart of W_n_e_, Ia., Alice Fenny of W__e_e, __, Will Garretson of Oklahoma besides a number of friends and relatives to mourn his death.

Funeral services were held at the home Monday at 1 p.m. conducted by Rev. F. L. Brock, who spoke from the text Be thou faithful unto death and I will give Thee a crown of life - found in Rev. 2-10. Music was rendered by a quartet - composed of Mr. and Mrs. Elwyn Oldham and Mr. and Mrs. Brock. Interment was made at the Brown cemetery near Colesburg.
