Louise Mary Walter.
Louisa Mary Walter, of Wagner twp., whose maiden name was Eggiman, was born at Wassen, Kanton Bern, Switzerland, Jan. 30, 1844. In 1862 she came to this country and made her home in Clayton County. April 24, 1864, she was united in marriage to Michial Walter with whom she lived forty years. To them were born four sons and five daughters. One son, Henry, died as a child.
Mrs. Walter lived in the same home from the time she was married to the time of her death. Eliza Monlux is the only one now living in the neighborhood who was there at the time Mrs. Walter came here. Her husband passed away August 21, 1904. The end of her earthly career came Monday morning January 15, 1923, having attained the age of 78 years, 11 months and 16 days.
She was a faithful Christian, a kind neighbor and always ready to help anyone in need, and gladly assisted in anything that was good for the neighborhood.
She leaves to mourn her death, three sons, George at home, William and Phillip of Wagner township, five daughters, Mary and Louise at home, Barbara Henkes of Cresco, Verena Eno of Sheffield, and Cora Krambeer of Grand Meadow township. Two brothers, Jacob Eggiman of Elkader and Rudolph Eggiman of Bruno, Minn. One sister, Mrs. Verena Felker of Walnut, Iowa. 24 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon January 18th at the house and in the U.B. church where the remains were laid to rest. Services were conducted by Rev. O. A. Hillman of Monona. The grandsons were pall bearers and the granddaughters were flower girls.
