McGREGOR BOY KILLED BY AUTO.
Robert Mehsling, the eight-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Mehsling of McGregor, died in the hospital in that city at three o'clock Tuesday morning as the result of injuries received when he was struck by an automobile at about 7:15 the evening before.
It is said that the little boy was playing with his coaster wagon near the public square when the car came along at high speed making little or no apparent effort to avoid striking the child and then speeding away heartlessly after the accident.
The boy was picked up by persons in the immediate vicinity and rushed to a hospital where everything was done to save his life. He died, however, about eight hours after the accident occurred. His little body was horribly crushed by the heavy machine.
An inquest was held Tuesday and several witnesses were examined, but so far there has not been much progress toward ascertaining the identity of the driver or the occupants of the machine.
