Billy Ray Kuehl, 69, of Clayton, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at his home in Clayton, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Barbara Wills. Visitation was Tuesday at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Garnavillo.

Bill Ray Kuehl was born in Littleport, the son of Earl and Leta (Rieck) Kuehl on Nov. 12, 1932. He attended Littleport High School. He enlisted in the Navy in 1949 and was honorably discharged in 1953. In 1954 he entered the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1958. Bill worked for U.S. Tobacco as the district manager for 20 years.

He married Barb Kuehl on July 6, 1963. They owned and operated Bill's Boat Landing for 26 years. Bill loved his birds, kittens, flowers, the river, and loyal friends. He dearly loved spending time with his granddaughter, Kaitlyn.

Bill donated his body to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program.

Those left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Kimberly Kuehl of Clayton; son Fredrick Kuehl of Garnavillo; two sisters, Lois French of Lumberton, Texas, Linda (Maury) Glesne of Elkader; three brothers, Kenny Rieck of Orange, Texas, Kurt (Joan) Kuehl of Stafford, Texas, Larry (Carole) Kuehl of Chanute, Kan.; a granddaughter Kaitlyn Berns Kuehl, many nieces and nephews, and patrons who became loyal friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Barb; his parents; sister-in-law, Virginia Rieck, and brother-in-law, Donald French.

Note: His wife, Barbara Sue (Schlesselman) Kuehl, died 7/29/1997. She is buried in the Clayton cemetery.
