Mr. Freeman Parker Stearns, one of the pioneer settlers of Clayton county and a resident of Monona most of his life, died Thursday afternoon, August 29th, at his home. About two years ago he began suffering with a cancer which later caused his death.
Mr. Freeman Parker Stearns was born April 28, 1835, in Ornville, Maine. He came with his parents to Clayton county in 1853 and settled in Farmersburg on Sept. 12 in 1858, and was later united in marriage to Miss Olive Ann Cloudman. Four children were born to them, two of whom passed away in childhood. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife; a son, D. C. Stearns of Monmouth, Ill.; one daughter, Mrs. Stetta Suchanek, of Des Moines, Ia.; one sister; two nephews, Frank Sanborn, of Cedar High, Iowa and Floyd Leviness, of Pleasant Ridge; a niece, Mrs. Sadie Walgmont, of Fairbank, Iowa; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Childress, of Postville, at the Congregational church, of which deceased was a member, on Thursday, Sept. 1st. He was laid to rest in the Farmersburg cemetery.
