Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 06 June 1918. Strawberry Point column.
Paul Reginald, the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Rankins, was born at Decorah April 4, 1918, and passed away at the Hayes home in Lamont Thursday. The little one has never been very well and the fond parents sought the best medical assistance. A few days ago Mrs. Rankins and baby went to Lamont in hopes that the little one might be benefitted but he gradually grew worse. He brought sunshine into the home which he has left so lonely, but the little flower has been broken, and the sweet young life has been snatched away and God in his wisdom has seen fit to take His tender plant and rear it where sorrow is unknown. Funeral services were held at Lamont and the remains were brought here Saturday afternoon for interment. Beautiful white flowers covered the little white casket but the loveliest of all was the beautiful rosebud that the Heavenly Father plucked for the home over there. The bereaved parents have the sympathy of all in their sad affliction.

The hearts of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Rankin, who live two and a half miles east of Strawberry Point are saddened by the taking away of their little son, Reginald Paul. He was born on April 3rd and died on May 31st, his brief life being measured by eight weeks and two days.
It was soon evident that he was not a healthy child, but the love of his parents was exercised in every known means to bring him to health and strength, and in order to facilitate this, and that they might have the advise and help of Mr. Rankin's sister, Mrs. C.E. Hayes at Lamont, Iowa, a few days ago they took him there. The plan was apparently successful and some improvement in his condition was seen, but last Friday morning a change for the worse came and at half past nine he passed away.
A short funeral service was held in the home of C.E. Hayes at Lamont by the Rev. S.C. Bretnall of Edgewood, Iowa, and the little one was then taken to Strawberry Point, Iowa and the remains laid to rest in the family lot in the cemetery there.
The sympathy of the whole community goes out to them in their sorrow.
