George H. Steinhilber was born near Strawberry Point, Iowa, Jan. 20th, 1864, and died at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, May 27, 1918, following two operations which were performed in an effort to remedy an illness of a year or more. He was the son of Gottlieb and Minnie Steinhilber. He received his education in the German school at Waverly. For several years he assisted A. J. Pease in the general merchandise store and later with his brother Stephen conducted a hardware store for five years. On April 25, 1888, he was married to Miss Neola Scofield of this place. In 1892 he, with his brother Stephen, moved to Pocahontas where they conducted a hardware and implement business. At one time Mr. Steinhilber held the position as postmaster. Surviving him are his wife, two daughters, Ethel now Mrs. Cyril Carney, of Des Moines, and Harriet, a student in Grinnell college, also four brothers and one sister; Stephen of Pocahontas, Henry of Truesdale, Gottlieb, Charles and Mrs. Minnie Clough of Strawberry Point. Funeral services were held from the residence at Pocahontas Tuesday morning. Rev. Shaw, of the Presbyterian church, conducted the services, assisted by Rev. Winter Stein, of the M.E. church, also by the Masonic Lodge. The body was brought to Strawberry Point for burial, services being conducted by the Masons at the grave Wednesday morning.
