Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 09 May 1918.
At 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, April 30, 1918, occurred the death of Mrs. Patrick Dinan at the home of her daughter, Mrs. P. Downey, in Cox Creek township, after a brief illness of two days.
Deceased's maiden name was Anastasia Collonan. She was born in County Waterford, Ireland, in 1836. At the age of nine years she moved with her parents to Millbury, Mass., where she grew to womanhood.
At the age of twenty-two years she was united in marriage to Mr. Patrick Dinan of Leominster, Mass. Shortly after their marriage they removed to Cox Creek township where Mr. Dinan had purchased a home, and where they lived until after Mr. Dinan's death which occurred in 1898.
A few years after, she sold the old homestead to her sons, Michael and Lawrence, and since then has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Patrick Downey, where she resided until her death last Tuesday morning.
Twelve children have been born of this union, three dying when young, and John whose death occurred in 1914.
She is survived by her three sisters of Millbury, Mass.; four daughters; Mrs. Richard Leonard, Mrs. Patrick Downey and Delia Dinan, of Elkader, and Jennie Dinan of Chicago. Four sons; James, of Elkader, Jeremiah, of California and Michael and Lawrence, of Littleport, Iowa. Also twenty-four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Dinan up to the time of her late illness enjoyed good health and was robust and healthy for a woman of her age. She was a devoted Christian, being a member of the Catholic church. She was a kind mother, loving wife, and a good friend, and leaves a large circle of fiends and acquaintances to mourn her death.
Funeral services were held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock from St. Joseph's church, Solemn High Mass being celebrated by her nephew, Rev. Luke Donlon, assisted by Rev. Father Taken of Elkader and Rev. Father Minogue of Elkport, Iowa, Father Donlon preaching a very touching sermon, a fitting tribute to the deceased. She died as she had lived, honored and respected by all who knew her. May her soul rest in peace.
