Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 18 Apr. 1918. Farmersburg column.
When life became beautiful, when the sweet duties of the wife of a devoted husband, and the charms of motherhood came to her, when she was filled with plans for work and future, she was overtaken by man's enemy - death.
Elsie Heiden came to this world the 31st of July, 1896, in Wagner township, Clayton county, she being the daughter of John Heiden and wife, Lena, nee Staade. She was received by her Saviour in holy baptism, October 4, 1896, and confirmed as a member of the Ev. Lutheran church at Farmersburg, March 20, 1910. She was united in marriage to Mr. Fritz Strien, June 16, 1915. Born to this union one child, Lillian Carolina.
Mrs. Strien had been ailing last fall and winter, but her case became acute in January. In February, her mother took her to Iowa City where the specialist diagnosed her case as tumor in the brain cavity. In spite of the best of care from all sides, the efforts of twelve physicians who were employed, she grew gradually weaker and passed away, Monday at 10 a.m. in the youthful age of 21 years, 8 months and 10 days.
She leaves beside her husband and daughter, her mother, Mrs. John Heiden, her father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Strien, two brothers, Fritz of California, and John of Farmersburg, two sisters, Wilhemina (Mrs. Schmidt) of Farmersburg, and Ida (Mrs. Ilvi_), of Hazel, N.D.
Lead kindly Light, amid th' encircling
gloom
Lead thou me on.
