Bean, Eloise Norbertha (Rice) 1893 - 1918

BEAN, RICE

Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 28 Mar. 1918.

Eloise Norbertha (Rice) Bean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Rice, was born at Melletta, S.D., Oct. 10, 1893, and died at Elkader, Iowa, March 24, 1918, aged 24 years, 5 months and 14 days.

In 1896 she moved with her parents to McGregor, Iowa, where she grew to Womanhood. On August 21, 1913, she was married to Lyle Harrison Bean, a McGregor young man, and they made their home in that place until March, 1917, when they moved to Elkader, where Mr. Bean had been appointed to the position of Deputy Clerk of the Courts of Clayton county. Three children, with the husband, are left to mourn her untimely demise; Walton Elbert, Lyle Harrison and Clarence William.

Mrs. Rice gave birth to the third child on Sunday, March 17, at the Moran hospital and was seemingly on the road to recovery up to Wednesday of last week, when her condition became worse. A consultation of physicians was called on Saturday, but help could not be given her, and she passed away the next day. Her mother, Mrs. E. H. Rice, had been here some time, and her husband's parents and her own brother and his wife were here during her last hours.

The body was taken to McGregor to the home of her brother, Fred S. Rice, Monday afternoon, from which place it was interred on Tuesday in the McGregor cemetery, where services were conducted at the house by Rev. Alex E. Cutler

This is a peculiarly sad death, as Mrs. Bean leaves three little children without the mother-love during their growing years. The husband is thus left with his burden and sorrow to bear alone.

(Note: A Card of Thanks was signed by Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Rice, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Bean and L. H. Bean. No relationships indicated.)
