Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 24 Jan. 1918.
Patrick Pennington passed away at his home in Highland township on Saturday morning, Jan. 19th, aged 85 years. Death was due to the infirmity of old age.
He served his country as a soldier in the Union army during the Civil War. Shortly after the close of the war he came to Iowa, locating on a farm in Highland township, which has since been his home. He was the last one of the old pioneers in this part of the country, his wife, one son, and one daughter have preceded him in death. He is survived by one son, Edward, his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Edward Pennington, and two little grandchildren, Madonna and Martin Pennington, who live on the same place, and who have tenderly cared for, and made happy his declining years.
During his last illness he was comforted by the Sacraments of the Catholic church of which he was a life-long member.
Rev. J. Taken said Mass on Monday morning. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery.
May he rest in peace.
