Mrs. Emma Humpke, nee Kurdelmeier, who died at her home in Elkader, Jan. 02, 1918, was 47 years, 10 months and 27 days old. She was born in Read township Feb. 05, 1870.
Hrs. Humpke's illness only lasted a few days and the cause of her death was pneumonia.
She was the daughter of William and Marie Kurdelmeier, and was married to George Humpke Feb. 28, 1901. One child was born to this union - Francis, 14 years old - who, with the sorrowing husband, survive her. Her mother, now eighty years old, together with four brothers and two sisters, also mourn her demise. They are: Julius, Denison, Iowa; Mrs. Anna Tewes, Louis and Fritz, of Monona; George, of Read township; and Mrs. Mathilda Palas, of Luana.
The funeral was held at 12 o'clock noon on Saturday, Jan. 05, from the Ev. Friedens church, Rev. C. H. Franke officiating. Interment was in Clayton Center cemetery.
Mrs. Humpke was a member of the church from which she was buried, as well as the Frauen Verein of that organization.
