Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 1917.

Charles Lemka was born Aug. 20, 1858, in Read township, Clayton county, Iowa.

When he reached manhood he was married to Lena Dohrer, on the 4th day of October, 1881. Three children were born to this union. The family has always made Cox Creek township their home.

For the last few years Mr. Lemka has been in failing health, which caused him to move to an adjoining farm smaller in extent, while the home farm was cared for by the son-in-law, George Hubbard.

There were times when it seemed that Mr. Lemka was improving in health and gaining strength, but it was only temporary. The best of care was given him by his life's partner. He was confined to his bed for only a few days and conscious to the last. The end came almost unexpectedly on Friday morning, Dec. 28th, the term of his earthly pilgrimage being 59 years, 4 months and 8 days.

The departure of the beloved husband is a great loss to the faithful wife and companion, who shared with him life's joys and sorrows for over thirty-six years, and to their children, Harry W. and Raymond at home, and Hilda Hubbard, who lives with her family on the old farm. He also leaves two grandchildren, Mary and Florence Hubbard; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Eberhart and Mrs. Lena Meyer of Elkader; three brothers, Henry of Maynard, Iowa, Will of Luverne, Minn., and Louis of Cox Creek township, besides many old time friends and neighbors.

The funeral was held at the Ev. Friedens church in Elkader at 1 o'clock p.m., Monday, Dec. 31, Rev. C. H. Franke officiating. Interment was in the East Side cemetery.
