McGregor Pearl Dealer Stricken.
W.H.C. Elwell, 82, Dies of Heart Attack.

W. H. C. Elwell, 82, said to be the largest dealer in river pearls in the United States, died of a heart attack in his shop in McGregor Sunday afternoon.

Mr. Elwell was a pioneer in the pearl business 50 years ago when pearls worth thousands of dollars were found in clams in the upper Mississippi river. Since then he has operated a pearl and curio shop in McGregor which was a mecca for tourists. Jewelers throughout the United States and as far away as India and China were included among his customers.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Dean F. H. Elwell of the University of Wisconsin college of commerce; two daughters, Mrs. L. P. Bickel, McGregor, and Prof. Mary Elwell of the faculty of Connecticut State Teachers college, Willimantic, Conn.
