Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 20 Dec. 1917.

While it has been known for some weeks that A. L. Hover could not live, his death at five o'clock Monday evening came as a shock to many people who have known, liked and respected him during the years that he has been a resident of Elkader.

Mr. Hover, it will be remembered, was compelled to give up the active management of his photograph gallery here about the first of January last year, and since then he has been confined to the house most of the time and to his bed a share of the time.

The funeral of the deceased was held at the home and at the Congregational church today at 1:30, Rev. Isaac Cassel preaching the funeral sermon. Interment was in East Side cemetery, beside the body of his wife. The funeral was in charge of Elkader Lodge No. 72 A.F. & A.M., of which he was an honored member.

Alfred L. Hover was born July 12, 1884, at Locust, Iowa, and was a son of Louis and Anna Hover. He came to Elkader in 1906 and on June 5, 1907, was married to Miss Lena Eberhart, of Elkader. No children were born to this union and the wife passed away some five years ago. Those who survive to mourn are his father, one brother, two sisters and the mother-in-law, Mrs. Minnie Eberhart. The father, brother Nathan and sisters, Miss Lillian Hover and Mrs. Alice Pooly, all live in Minneapolis, while the mother-in-law has been all that a mother could be to him since the death of his wife.

The brother, Nathan, has been with Mr. Hover some weeks, helping to take care of him and make his last days as peaceful as possible, and in this he assisted the mother-in-law, Mrs. Eberhart. The cause of death was pernicious anaema, and while he used every means available, and his relatives to the full extent of their ability, with doctors and care, it was all to no avail.

A. L. Hover's life among the people of Elkader was such that he had the respect and esteem of the entire community. High minded, gentlemanly and a man of morality and true religious character, his passing is a distinct loss to the community as well as the relatives.
