Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 13 Dec. 1917. Strawberry Point column.

Lewis Howes was born in Ohio, Jan. 7, 1838. Here he lived until 1854 when he moved to Iowa. He was married to Adaline Lietts, Oct. 14th, 1860. To this union were born two children, Harley, of Strawberry Point, and Mrs. Mary Powelson, of Hampton, Minn. The mother died Feb. 20, 1916. Since that time the father has been in failing health during which period the son, Harley, who with all the tenderness and devotion of a mother, cared for him and saw that the constant needs and wants of his only companion were graciously satisfied. The end came Dec. 5th, 1917. The funeral took place from the home Friday morning at 10:00 o'clock, the services consisting of a prayer at the house and at the cemetery. Burial at County Corners.
