Rhoda H. Case was born in New York on Oct. 28, 1828, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. J. Hildreth, in Marion Iowa, on Dec. 8, 1917, aged 89 years, 1 month and 11 days. She was united in marriage with Ira S. Mason on July 25th, 1845. For a few months over 69 years they traveled life's pathway together, Mr. Mason preceding her in death on Nov. 3rd, 1913. They were the parents of four sons and two daughters: William Jerome, who died June 23, 1870; Lucinda Hildreth of Marion Iowa; Milton D., who died in 1907; Hattie, who died in 1861; Linas B., of Waukon, Iowa; and Cassius M., of Monona, Iowa. She is also survived by twenty grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren. The family home for many years was in Monona. Mrs. Mason was a member of the Congregational church, a devout and earnest Christian. She took an active part in the organization of the Ladies Aid Society in Monona and was one of the first presidents of that society. Mr. and Mrs. Hildreth accompanied the remains here from Marion, Iowa, Monday. The funeral service was conducted from the Congregational church Monday morning at 10:00 o'clock, Rev. H. B. Hall pronouncing the funeral oration. The remains were consigned to their last resting place in the family lot in the Monona cemetery.
