Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 13 Dec. 1917.

William Carl Freiderich Schmidt, son of Carl and Carolena (Gless) Schmidt, was born in Luchmansdorf, Germany, on the 14th day of September, 1867, and died on the 5th day of December, 1917, at Farmersburg, Iowa. The cause of death was abscess of the stomach.

Mr. Schmidt came to this country and to Garnavillo, Iowa, where he worked for seven years at farming.

On the 25th of February, 1892, he was married to Miss Wilhelmina Heiden, of Reid township. This happy union was blessed by four children, namely: Alma, married to William Hamann, of Waubay, S.D.; Hilda, at home; Arno, who died at eight months of age; and Helmuth, at home.

After the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt they moved to Garnavillo, Iowa, where they lived for two years and he followed the mason's trade, which he had learned in the old country. After that they moved to the Fred Pahlas farm in Farmersburg township, where they lived for fourteen years. From there they moved to Lime Springs, Iowa, and lived one year. Returning to Farmersburg village, he took up his trade as cement and mason contracting, following that business until he took sick last October.

Several physicians were consulted, but to no avail, and he died at the age of 50 years, 2 months and 21 days. He leaves to mourn his departure his loving wife and three children, besides two grandchildren, Alice and Laveria Hamann; one sister, Mrs. Carl Fascher, of Clayton township; two aunts, Mrs. Fredereka Schmidt, of Garnavillo township, and Mrs. Christena Pyritz, of Kelseyville, Cal., several cousins and numerous friends to mourn his early departure.

As he was a member of the Lutheran church, having been baptized and confirmed in that faith, and a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, the funeral services of Mr. Schmidt were held from the late home on Friday, Dec. 7th, the Rev. Braun preaching the sermon. Interment was in Farmersburg cemetery.
