On Dec. 08, 1917, at his home in Highland township, surrounded by loved ones, John Feeney peacefully passed away.
Deceased was born in Volga City, Iowa, Feb. 25, 1863. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Madden on June 01st, 1892, who survives him with the seven children that were born to this union, namely: Matthew, Josephine, Florence, John, Ella, Mary and Francis. Two brothers and two sisters also mourn his departure - Michael Feeney and Mrs. Ed Looby, of Chicago, Pete Feeney and Mrs. T. F. Kelleher, of Elkader.
John Feeneey had been a man of even temper, generous, charitable, yet firm in his convictions of right and wrong, and was therefore esteemed and loved by all who knew him intimately. A faithful husband and father, an obliging neighbor and trustworthy friend has passed away. It is well with him in eternity.
Funeral services were held in St. Joseph's church on Tuesday morning, Dec. 11th, conducted by Father Taken, and was largely attended. He was a charter member of the local Foresters and the members of that organization attended the funeral in a body. His remains were laid to rest in St. Joseph's cemetery. The pall bearers were: Michael Roach, Peter Dunn, Jerry Kelleher, J. K. Molumby, James Finnegan and Frank Liddy.
