Joachim Frederick Mueller was born Nov. 18, 1832, at Werder, Germany. In March 1875 he came with his family to this country and settled at Clayton Center. After his wife's death he came to Elkader, which was about five years ago.
On Nov. 18th of last year, he had a stroke which caused his left side to be paralyzed. This summer another stroke followed which rendered him helpless. All the while the best care was given him by his step-daughter, Anna, until his eyes closed in death on Sunday morning, Dec. 2nd, at the age of 85 years and 14 days.
He is survived by two sons William Mueller, Wagner township, and Fritz Mueller, Farmersburg township., and one step-daughter, Anna Palmer, of Elkader, who kept house for the old gentleman since his wife's death.
He also leaves twenty grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted at the house and in the church at Clayton Center by Rev. Athenstaedt. Interment was made in the Clayton Center cemetery.
