Once again the angel of death has called in our midst and taken away Magdalena Stemmer Wentz.
Deceased was born April 26, 1839, in Sellengen, Baden, Germany, and died November 26, 1917, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe Kramer, Elkader. She was thus 78 years and 7 months old on the day of her death.
The subject of this obituary was married to John Wentz in 18_0, and they settled on a farm in Volga township. To them were born four children: Mrs. Ed Hilgendorf of Elkader, Mrs. Charles Russell of Broadus, Mont., Mrs. John Ehrhardt of Elkader, and Mrs. Joe Kramer of Elkader. One brother, Jacob Stemmer, and four sisters, Mrs. Henry Krou_e of Goodell, Mrs. William Mall of Belle Plain, Mrs. John Becker of Elkader, Mrs. Gottlieb Wertley of Elkader, besides sixteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and other relatives, with the many friends of a lifetime mourn her passing.
When the evening was drawing nigh her sight became more dim and she wanted to die ere the light be shut out entirely. All that loved ones could do to make her comfortable and happy was done. She will be greatly missed by them all, for there will be a vacant chair.
The funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Ev. Frieden's church, Rev. C. H. Franke officiating. Interment in the East Side cemetery.
