CHRISTELEIT, CHRISTILITE

Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 22 Nov. 1917.

Gustav Christilite of Sperry township was accidently killed Sunday afternoon while out hunting. He was standing on a pile of timbers when one became dislodged causing him to fall on the gun in such a manner that it was discharged, striking him in the stomach.

Medical aid was called at once and everything possible was done for him but he lived only forty minutes after the accident.

Thus a bright, young life was snapped out. He was fifteen years of age, of a bright, sunny disposition and will be greatly missed by his loved ones and friends. The funeral was held Tuesday morning at the Christilite home, where Rev. W. H. Smith officiated and he was buried at Clayton Centre, where Rev. Athenstadt had charge of the funeral services.

Gustav Christilite, son of Julius and Amelie Christilite, was born June 2, 1902, in Read township, this county. Ten years ago his parents moved out to the farm which is their present home. It is one of the beautiful customs of these people to place their children under religious instruction to prepare them for the reception into the church and for living a pious life. So Gustav was sent to the pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran church at Clayton Centre where he was so trained and was confirmed on the 16th of April, 1916.

His pastor spoke of him as one of the most apt and obedient of his scholars.

He leaves his parents, three brothers and two sisters to mourn his sudden departure. One brother and sister have preceded him in death.

(Note: Buried as Gustav Christeleit, 1902 - 1917, in Zion Luth. cemetery. See his gravestone photo on the IGPP.)
