Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 22 Nov. 1917.

Dorothy Zacher was born Dec. 11th, 1846, at Klein Beuster, Germany. In the spring of 1873 she came to America and settled in Clayton County where she was united in marriage with J. Kuehl on the 13th day of August of the same year. Eleven children were born to this union, of which several preceded their mother in death. A daughter, Mrs. Henry Reimer, died Feb. 5th, 1916, which was a great shock to the mother who was not very strong herself.

For the past few years the aged people made their home in our city. Of late Mrs. Kuehl was quite feeble, being afflicted with asthma and a weak heart. During her sickness she received the most tender care from husband, children and kind neighbors, her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Joe Kuehl, being at her bedside for over a week.

On Sunday the condition of the patient became alarming. The children were notified and responded with their home-coming. With each and everyone the failing mother had a kind, motherly farewell-talk, words never to be forgotten. Although suffering with great pain she remained conscious to the very last, even recognizing her son Herman and her sister Mrs. Jansen from Dubuque, a few minutes before she closed her eyes in death, on Tuesday, Nov. 20th, shortly before the noon hour.

She reached the good old age of 70 years, 11 months and 9 days.

Her departure is mourned by the aged, grief-stricken husband and seven children, namely: Joe Kuehl, Boardman township; Mrs. Sophia Schroeder, Elkport, Iowa; Herman Kuehl, Clair, Iowa; Charles and William Kuehl, Lttleport; John Kuehl, Elkport; and Henry Kuehl, Littleport.

She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Louisa Jansen, Dubuque, Iowa, forty grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and a host of sincere old friends and neighbors, who will greatly miss her.

She was a faithful member of the Frauen-Verein, the members of which attended in a body at the funeral services which were held this, Thursday afternoon, at 1:30 at the house, and at 2 o'clock at the Evangelical Frieden's church, Rev. Franke officiating. Interment was at the East Side cemetery.

The pall-bearers were the following friends and neighbors: Jacob Eggimann, William Dahling, Henry Bente, Henry Lenth, Henry Baars and George Ehrhardt.
