Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 20 Sept. 1917. Strawberry Point column.
The white winged messenger entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Bowman last Friday at noon and took from them their next to youngest child, Earl, after a twelve days illness of cholera infantum. Medical aid and loving hands administered to every want but it seemed like the little one could not be spared. Earl Fred Bowman was born at Strawberry Point, Dec. 7, 1914, and was of a sweet and cheerful disposition and always brought sunshine into the home, where he has left so lonely but the little flower has been snatched away and God in His wisdom has seen fit to take His tender plant and rear it where sorrow is no more. Funeral services occurred at the German Lutheran church Sunday at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Fritchel, speaking in English. The pall bearers were Raymond Beuchner, Fred Gratke, Jr., Alvin Baumgartner and Walter Fliehler. The flowers sent by fiends more than covered the beautiful white casket. Besides his parents he leaves two sisters and five brothers to mourn his death. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved ones.
