Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 06 Sept. 1917. Strawberry Point columns.
One of Cox Creek's saintliest mothers passed to her heavenly reward Saturday evening, Sept. 01, 1917, aged 58 years, 8 months and 20 days. Anna Katherine Olinger was born at the old home in Clayton county, Iowa, on December 12, 1858. Here she grew to womanhood, always keeping before her, the one ideal of Christian living which was clearly shown in her daily life. On November 18, 1879, she was united in the holy bond of matrimony to Michael William Henry, also of Cox Creek. This union was blessed with six children: Mrs. Charles Opperman, of Strawberry Point, Atty. B. W. Henry, of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Wm. Merkl, of Edgewood, James A., of Strawberry Point, M. Marie, at home and Mrs. Claude Clute, of Manchester; also six grandchildren, all of whom were present during her long and painful illness and who still live to call her blessed. No sacrifice was too great for her to make for her friends or her children whose spiritual and temporal welfare she always kept in mind. One great effort of her life was to aid her children in obtaining an education and their success in their chosen vocations stands as a monument to their mother's memory. Solemn requiem mass was said at Sacred Heart church Tuesday forenoon by Rev. Father Casey, in the presence of a large concourse of friends who came to pay a last tribute to a loved friend, neighbor and mother. The following relatives from away were present: Mrs. D. A. Harkins, of Sheldon, Iowa; John Olinger, of Minneapolis; John and Barney Hanson, of Lexington, Nebr.; Mrs. Julia Miller and Mrs. Jennie Vagot, of Lexington, Nebr.; Mrs. Anna Graham, of Dubuque, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Hanson, of Lexington, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Alex Henry and Miss Tid Peck, of Des Moines.
