Lee A., eldest son of John and Nettie Purman, was born near Garber, Clayton County, Iowa, September 21st, 1896, and here he spent his childhood, attending the rural schools and later the Elkport public schools. Lee was a bright and studious boy, always ranking first in his class.

On the morning of March 9th while in the employ of this company, he met with the accident that caused his death. He was very patient though intense sufferer and March 21st he passed from this life to the life beyond, at the age of 20 years and six months. He leaves to mourn his death his father, mother, one brother and two sisters, one brother and one sister having preceded him; he also leaves an aged grandfather, two aged grandmothers, several uncles, aunts and cousins, and many friends, who will miss him.
