Caroline C. Gibbs was born at Ellicottsville, N.Y., December 26th, 1831, and on the 29th day of April, 1851, at the same place, was married to James O. Crosby, who, in the summer of 1854, located at Garnavillo, the family coming in April the next year. She died May 15th, 1909, after a lingering illness.

The funeral took place Sunday afternoon, Rev. B. H. Cheney, of Monona, officiating, using the Episcopal burial service. Those from out of town who attended were the following: Mrs. Wm. Larrabee, Clermont; Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Briar, Monona; Mrs. Thomas Lansing; Mrs. Unis Gibbs Allyn, Dubuque; Mrs. H. Crosby, Decorah; Messrs. R. E. and V. T. Price and their families, of Elkader, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Larrabee, of McGregor.
