Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 08 Apr. 1909. Volga column.

Wendell Eugene White was born at National, Clayton county, Iowa, June 24th, 1860, and died at Volga April 1st, 1909. He came to Volga in 1885 and clerked for White, Parsons & Co., and afterward worked as paper hanger and decorator. He was married to Dora Blanche Tenney, of Sperry township Sept. 9th, 1891. To this union were born two children, Alo Tenney Aug. 21st, 1892, and Cecile Dec. 15th, 1895. He was the third child of a family of eleven children, of whom five are living. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife and two children, a mother, Mrs. Thomas White, of Volga, two sisters, Mrs. Sumner Miller, of Pine Bluff, Wyoming, Mrs. A. P. Bock, of Waukon, Iowa; three brothers, Dr. G. G. White, of Elkader, and R. D. White and H. G. White, of Volga, and many relatives and friends. In February, 1892, he moved onto a farm he owned west of Volga. In the spring of 1899, having sold his farm, he moved to Volga, where he opened a general store and harness shop, and resided there until his death. He was a good citizen and neighbor and well liked by all who knew him. All the children liked "Pin" as he was called, and he liked children and will be missed by all. Volga loses one of her best citizens and a man not afraid to express his opinion on all questions. As a token of respect a large wreath of roses and carnations was sent by the business houses of Volga and all places of business were closed during the funeral. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock at the M.E. church, Rev. Bashem offcating.
