Fred W. Wilke
F. W. Wilke died at his home in Read township on last Saturday morning at 65 years, 7 months and 5 days. Deceased was born in the province of Westphalin, Germany, on June 18th, 1843, and came to the United States in 1863 and located in Clayton Center.
On April 28th, 1866, he was united in marriage with Doretta Landon and to them were born fourteen children, seven of whom are living, viz., Mrs. G. F. Mueller, of St. Olaf, Mrs. H. _. Mandlekow, of Goodhue county, Minn., Mrs. Wm. Mueller, of Read, H. W. Wilke, of St. Olaf, F. C. Wilke, of Read township, Aug. Wilke of Read, and Mrs. Herman Palas, of Sperling, Manitoba, Canada. He is also survived by his faithful companion, a sister and two brothers, Mrs. Herman Dick, and John H. Wilke, of Old Moura, Missouri, and N. W. Wilke of Elkader, and many grandchildren who mourn his departure into eternity.
Mr. Wilke was a kind and affectionate husband and father, an industrious citizen and a good neighbor and will be missed and mourned by many.
The funeral was held Wednesday at Clayton Center Rev. Burghard officiating at the last rites.
