Miss Louisa Bernhard, one of Monona's highly respected women, died Sunday morning at the Postville Community hospital at the age of 76 years. Her health had not been good for many months.
She was born at Giard , Nov. 20, 1858, the daughter of Geo. and Elizabeth Bernhard. After the death of Reuben Bernhard's mother, when a lad of four, Miss Bernhard kept house for his father and was a real mother to him. About 15 years ago she and her brother, William G. Bernhard, moved to Monona, and after his death she made her home with her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Wiethorn.
Funeral services were held from the Carl G. Schultz funeral home to the First Methodist church, Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. Louis H. Joslin officiating, and burial was made in the Giard cemetery.
Surviving her are three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Wiethorn and Mrs. Clara Hupfer of Monona, and Mrs. Caroline Good of Plainfield, Iowa. Her two brothers, John Bernhard and William G. Bernhard, preceded her in death. Also surviving her are 16 nephews and nieces and a number of grandnephews and grandnieces.
