GUTTENBERG: August Fricke, life-long resident of Guttenberg, passed away at his home here on Sunday evening at the age of 74 years, following an illness of long duration. Mr. Fricke was born June 7, 1860, at Guttenberg. He attended the Guttenberg public schools. He was married September 19, 1894, to Miss Emma Christenson at Guttenberg. Mr. Fricke was a member of the Masonic lodge of Guttenberg. Years ago he held responsible positions here at Goetz's, Zimmerman and Ives saw mills, Ed. P. Eberhard Lumber Co., and the Guttenberg excelsior factory. Of late years he has been retired.

His death is deeply mourned by his wife; one daughter, Miss Meta Fricke of Cleveland, Ohio; one brother, William, of Graff, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Emil Frey, of Guttenberg, and many other relatives and friends. The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon with interment in the city cemetery, with many attending. The members of the local Masonic lodge attended the funeral in a body. The Rev. D. D. Welch of Dubuque officiated at the services.
