Clayton County Register, Thur., 13 Sept. 1934.
Mrs. George Taake, nee Ellen Sophia Marie Buckmann, was born April 27, 1879, in Read township, Clayton county, Iowa, and passed away at her Elkader home Friday afternoon, September 7th. The deceased reached the age of 55 years, four months and ten days.
Mrs. Taake spent her entire life in this community. She was baptized, confirmed and married in the Clayton Center Lutheran church, by the Rev. F. W. Seifert. She was united in marriage in the year 1899, on October 11th, to George Taake. After their marriage they resided on a farm in Read township. Two children were born to this union and survive their mother: Pearl, now Mrs. Raymond Mormann of Clayton township, and Selma, at home.
About ten years ago the family came to Elkader and located in their present home. Mrs. Taake was afflicted with a goiter for a number of years and about two years ago an operation was performed. Hope was entertained that she would recover her full health, but her heart caused her trouble from time to time, and for the last ten days she was confined to her bed and placed under the care of a nurse.
Mrs. Taake was a faithful mother and will be greatly missed by her loved ones. Shortly before her death she and her loved ones partook of the Lord's Supper. A year ago the deceased transferred her membership from Clayton Center to the Evangelical church here, and attended services of this church when her health permitted.
Besides the above named children and her husband, she leaves to mourn her departure her mother, Mrs. August Buckmann; two sisters, Mrs. August Taake and Mrs. George Tieden; two brothers, Lorenze and Arthur Buckmann; six grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Her father and one brother preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and at 2:00 at the Evangelical church. Interment was made in the Clayton Center cemetery, the Rev. P. Kitterer of Elkader officiating.
