GUTTENBERG: Emil Friedlein, long-time resident of this community, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nick (Harriet) Anderegg, in Jefferson township last Thursday morning at 4:30, at the age of 75 years, six months and ten days. He had been in poor health for some time previous to his death and therefore had been making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Nick Anderegg. Mr. Friedlein was born on Feb. 13, 1859, at Bayern, Germany, where he received his education and grew to young manhood. On July 4, 1883, he came to America and settled in Clayton county, Iowa, where the remainder of his ambitious life was spent. In the year 1884 he was married at Millville to Miss Louise Fischer, who preceded him in death on February 21, 1920. One daughter, Mrs. Wm. Becker, also preceded the father in death 18 years ago. For many years Mr. Friedlein was successfully engaged in farming, but of late years had been a resident of Guttenberg. Mr. Friedlein was a man who stood for justice and righteousness at all times. To know him was to like and respect him. He is survived by four children, namely, Mrs. Lena Anderegg, Mrs. Harriet Anderegg, Paul Friedlein and Mrs. Hilda Dickson, all of Jefferson township; a number of grandchildren; one brother, John Friedlein, of Cassville, Wis.; four sisters, Mrs. Dora Petsche, Mrs. Fred Schaal and Mrs. Fred Meyer, of Guttenberg, and Mrs. John Troester of Jefferson township, and many other relatives and friends, by whom he will be sadly missed. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. J. F. Adix at the Nick Anderegg home in Jefferson township on Saturday afternoon, with interment in St. John's cemetery in Jefferson township. The funeral was largely attended.
