Clayton County Register, Thur., 07 June 1934.

The deceased, Henry Gossman, was a life time resident of this county. He was the son of Christian and Sophia Gossman and was born January 28th, 1855, in Read township. On Thursday morning, May 31st, he passed away at the age of 79 years, four months and three days. Mr. Gossman was failing in health for the past several months, but was not seriously ill or confined to his bed until a week ago. Mr. Gossman numbers many friends and they will undoubtedly miss his friendly greetings and is pleasant way of mingling with them.

In the year 1877, on March third, he was united in marriage to Alvina Suhr of Read township. Six children were born to this union. One son, Walter, died in infancy. The five surviving children are: Charles of Read township, Etta Matt of National, Emil of Boardman, Alvina Breitsprecher of Luana, and Arno of Elkader.

For thirty-two years he farmed in Read township. In the year 1908 he moved to Elkader where he resided until his death. His wife was called to her reward on October 12, 1921. Of late years he made his home with his son Arno where he received the best of care until his departure.

He was baptized, confirmed and married by Rev. Seifert of Clayton Center.

Besides the above named children he leaves to mourn his departure two brothers, Will of Farmersburg and Louis of Northfield, Minn., eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held from the home at one thirty Saturday and at the Evangelical church at two o'clock. Interment was at Clayton Center. Rev. Korte conducted a service in the home in the German language and had charge at the grave. Rev. Kitterer had charge of the service at the church and preached in the English language.
