Clayton County Register, Thur., 07 Jun 1934.
Mrs. Jorand Helgeson, daughter of Ole Glesne and Rachel Nelson Glesne, was born in Norway, July 1, 1844, and reached the advanced age of 89 years, ten months and 29 days. She passed away after a short illness, due to age, on May 29, 1934, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carolina Johnson.
She came to this country from Norway with her parents, when about four years old, and spent her early life near Monroe, Green county, Wisconsin. She was united in marriage at the Norway church, May 22, 1865, to Peter Helgeson, who preceded her in death May 6, 1905. To this union were born eight children, four of whom preceded the mother in death, Hans, Gerhardt, Hans and Helen, and the four she leaves to mourn her passing: Carolina of St. Olaf; Nellie of St. Olaf; Mary and Oscar, both of Manning, N.Dak. She leaves one brother, Nels Glesne, of Elkader, and one sister, Mrs. Anton Fryslie, Vienna, S.Dak.
After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Helgeson made their home on a farm west of St. Olaf. Following the death of Mr. Helgeson, Mrs. Helgeson lived with her son Hans on the home place, until his death six years ago. She and her daughter Carolina lived on the farm until October, 1931, when she came to spend her last three years with her faithful, patient and loving daughter, whose never-tiring service followed her mother to the end.
Mrs. Helgeson, after coming to Clayton county, was one of the charter members of the Norway Ladies Aid, the others being Mrs. Ole Glesne and Mrs. Ole Gronhovd. All those who know her and the neighbors that lived near her came to know her as a true friend and a loving servant of God. She has been a faithful member of Norway church since her marriage, and devoted to God's truth. Much of her time was spent reading God's word and repeating lovely songs and prayers learned during instruction for confirmation. Sick and afflicted people were visited and received comfort and spiritual guidance from her presence. She always had a prayer for the help of the Heavenly Father. Besides the four children, a brother and sister, she leaves 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 31, at 2 p.m. at the Norway church, Rev. S. J. Strandjord officiating.
