Boland, Luke Joseph 1895 - 1934

The funeral of Luke Joseph Boland was held from the family residence in Highland township to the St. Joseph Catholic church in Elkader Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock.

Mr. Boland was born on the home farm near Elkader Jan. 3, 1895. He received his education in the St. Joseph school at Elkader. Mr. Boland has remained in this vicinity until six years ago, when he accepted a position with the Trane & Co., at La Crosse, Wis. He has been employed with this company during these years and because of his capability he was promoted to foreman of his department.

Mr. Boland contracted pneumonia about two weeks ago. He was taken to the St. Francis hospital in La Crosse, where he received all the care possible. His sister, Margaret, and brother, Thomas, were with him during his illness. At his death his faithful sister and cousin, Sisters Mary Martha and Anita of the Presentation convent were with him. He departed this life comforted with the last rites of the church on Saturday morning, May 19th.

The body was brought back to Elkader Saturday afternoon and taken to the family residence where he laid in state among many beautiful floral offerings and candles dimly lighted.

Mr. Boland was vice president of the Gliffwood Federal Labor Union in La Crosse, and was a member of St. Joseph's Cathedral in La Crosse. He was also a Forester in the lodge in Elkader.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Boland, four sisters, Miss Margaret, and Miss Anna, at home, Mrs. Mary Donlon of Elkader, and Sister Mary Martha, of Danberry, Iowa; three brothers, John of Tobique, Minn., and Thomas and Philip, of Elkader.

The casket bearers were Ed Finley, Leo Kelleher, Joseph Hoover, Jerald Feeney, Adolph Benson, Arthur Meyer, all of Elkader. Burial was made in the St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery, the Very Rev., J. P. Taken officiating at the church and cemetery.
