Peder P. Vellerswen was born in Nordre Land, Lands Prestegjold, Norge, May 11, 1844, and died suddenly early Wednesday morning, May 16th, at the age of 90 years and four days at the old home place where he spent the last 54 years of his life. He was able to be up and around every day till the time of his death. He was an intelligent and contented old man. When 21 years of age he came to this country, spending the next years in and around Wisconsin. In 1879 he was married to Helene H. Engen who came from the same part of Norway.
He leaves to mourn his departure his aged wife who has been very sick for the past month and unable to attend the funeral. To them were born three children, who also are left to mourn his departure, namely, Mrs. Theo. Wold of this community and Mrs. John Carmody of Chicago, Ill., and his son Henry, with whom he has made his home. One grandchild, Marie Elizabeth Carmody, two nieces, Mrs. Christ Nelson and Mrs. Lars Bergan, besides other relatives and friends mourn his sudden death. He was an active member of the Marion Lutheran church, always trying to do his part. He was a kind husband and father and had become endeared to his daughter-in-law, who has tried to make it pleasant for him in his declining years.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 19, at the Marion church, the Rev. S. J. Strandjord of St. Olaf officiating.
