Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Rebaschus were held last Tuesday afternoon at the Emanuel's Lutheran church, conducted by her pastor, Rev. M. O. Jahr. The casket supporters were her five sons and a son-in-law: John Donath, E. F. Donath, Fred Rebaschus, Carl Rebaschus, Emil Rebaschus and Christ Fliehler. Interment in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
Marie, daughter of Frederick and Charlotte Aukschum, was born March 23, 1846, at Leputchen, East Prussia, Germany. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith, of which she was a faithful member till her death. In the spring of 1869, she came to this country, where she found employment in the St. Sebald settlement. In the fall of 1869 she was united in marriage to Gottfried Donath. To this union two sons and one daughter were born. Mr. Donath passed away in 1875. On December 18, 1877, she was united in marriage to Frederick Rebaschus. To this union three daughters and three sons were born. They lived on a farm near St. Sebald till 1901, when they moved to Strawberry Point, which has since been the home. Mr. Rebaschus passed away March 3, 1921, and one daughter, Maria, April 21, 1927. She was a kind and loving mother and a good neighbor. Being an invalid since 1899, she was not able to do as she liked but never complained of her lot. After one week of illness, with the comfort of her pastor and partaking of the holy communion, she passed peacefully to her rest May 6, 1934, at the age of 88 years, one month and 13 days, surrounded by her children. She leaves the following children to mourn her loss: E. F. Donath, Mrs. Christ (Augusta) Fliehler, Fred Rebaschus, Mrs. H. C. (Ida) Bowman and Emil Rebaschus, of Strawberry Point; John Donath of St. Paul, Mrs. F. M. (Otille) Allen and Carl Rebaschus of Davenport, and 23 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Judge McGuire, J. C. Collier, Eugene Adams and Herbert Adams of Dubuque were present.
