James Donahue, who had been in failing health for some time, died at his home here in Elkader, Wednesday, May 9th, at the age of 71 years, six months and 26 days.
He was born in Read township on October 13, 1862, the son of Michael and Catherine Donahue, but for many years had resided on lower Front Street here in Elkader with his sister, Bridget. He never married.
He is survived by one brother and two sisters; his father and mother and one sister preceding him in death. Those surviving are Thomas Donahue, Mrs. John Melary and Miss Bridget Donahue, all of Elkader.
Funeral services were held from St. Joseph's Catholic church here last Friday morning and interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery, the Rev. Father J. P. Taken officiating.
Those from a distance attending the funeral services were: John Cullen and son of Whittemore, Ia.; Mrs. Thomas McCarville, Mr. and Mrs. Leo McCarville and daughter, all of Hollendale, Wis.
Mr. Donahue, who was a familiar figure in Elkader, will be missed by a large circle of friends.
